Music at the Maverick Carter House
Enjoy the Music
In keeping with the vision of Aline Badger Carter, the Maverick Carter House hosts intimate concert experiences. Aline passionately pursued the musical arts in both piano and harp. Proficient in the playing piano, Aline grew up practicing on her grandmother’s square grand Knabe—still in the home. While a student at the Boston Conservatory, Aline became an accomplished harpist under the instruction of renowned harpist Harriet A. Shaw. In the circular vestibule still stands her gilded 45-string Model A Wurlitzer Starke Harp c.1915, a gift from her beloved father. For over thirty years, Aline hosted an annual Christmas party for city orphans featuring a short religious ceremony in the chapel with musical services and gifts. The St. Mark’s Children’s Choir, dressed in white robes, made a procession down the main stairs singing carols while Aline played the harp.
